If you or someone you love are injured, it is important to take action to protect your rights to a legal remedy for what has happened.

 THE DOs

DO seek medical attention for your injury before doing anything else.

DO call the police, when appropriate. 

DO cooperate with emergency personnel and law enforcement. 

DO get any information you can about any other party or witnesses involved.  (I.e. License plate numbers of other vehicles involved, drivers' names, addresses, telephone numbers, and insurance information.

DO record the name and address of an animal's owner and any license info if you were injured in an animal bite or attack.

DO get the names, addresses, phone numbers, and any other relevant information for all potential witnesses of an accident.

DO take pictures of the following, when applicable, as soon as possible following the accident:

• The vehicles involved.
  
• The scene of the accident, from all angles.
• The surrounding area.
• The product or animal that caused your injuries.
• Any injuries as a result of the accident.
  
• Any property damage.

DO contact an attorney.

 THE DON'Ts

DON'T subject yourself to further injury by waiting in an area of traffic. 

DON'T leave the scene of an accident until the scene has been cleared and the police sa it is ok to leave.

DON'T throw away potential case evidence, such as defective products, or blood-stained clothing.

DON'T engage in discussions about who was responsible for the accident, and make sure you don't apologize for anything- in some cases, an apology can be considered evidence you were legally at fault.

DON'T agree to any terms of settlement without first contacting your attorney.
